Four Day First Aid at Work Course

Course Description: This is a UK Health and Safety Executive approved four-day course that complies with the HSE (First Aid) Regulations of 1981 (UK).

First Aid coverage in the workplace is a legal requirement throughout Europe.

UK Awarding Body: The Health and Safety Executive.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, the delegate will receive the HSE approved, UK recognised First Aid at Work Certificate.  This is valid for three years.

This certificate would enable the holder to act as a First Aider in the workplace under the 1981 (First Aid) Regulations (UK).

1st Aid Spain is able to offer on or off site training to organisations and companies who want to take control of their First Aid needs. We can deliver the Four-Day course for up to 12 delegates throughout Europe.  It enables an organisation to choose the most convenient dates and times. 1st Aid Spain is able to modify the content of the course to ensure specific areas of risk are covered.

Two Day First Aid at Work Refresher Course

Course Description: An HSE approved course that complies with the UK Health and Safety Regulations 1981 and the Approved Code of Practice L74 guidelines for the re-qualification of First Aid at Work certificate holders. First Aid coverage in the workplace is a legal requirement throughout Europe.

UK Awarding Body: The Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E.)


Who should attend?  The course is open to persons who currently fulfill the position of a qualified workplace First Aider.  


Delegates must be in possession of a valid (unexpired) First Aid at Work Certificate issued by any HSE Approved training organisation (including voluntary organizations).

Outline of the 2 Day FAW Refresher Course:
The major topics covered are:

  • Aims and principles of first aid
  • Prevention of cross-infection during first aid procedures
  • Basic Life Support, including resuscitation and choking
  • Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded, bleeding or shocked
  • How to deal with burns, poisoning and eye injuries
  • Assessment and treatment of common major and minor illnesses
  • Emergency transport of casualties
  • Update of any new or latest HSE protocol changes
  • Legal aspect of first aid at work
  • Record keeping and use of equipment
  • Disorders of consciousness
  • Bones, joints and muscle injuries

Certification: Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, each delegate will receive the HSE Approved, nationally recognised First Aid at Work Certificate. This is valid for a further 3 years. All delegates will also receive a First Aid Manual.

On Site Training: 1st Aid Spain is able to offer on and off site training to organizations and companies who want to take control of their First Aid needs.  1st Aid Spain can deliver the two day course for up to 12 delegates throughout Europe.  It enables an organisation to choose its most convenient location, dates and times.   1st Aid Spain is able to modify the content of the course according to your specific areas of risk.

1 or 2 Day Emergency First Aid in the Workplace for the Appointed Person

Course Description:  A minimum six hour programme (one day) for those who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and attain a recognised qualification in First Aid.  It is recommended by 1st Aid Spain that a person when learning 1st aid for the first time be given 2 days training.  For this reason 1st Aid Spain offers 2 days training at a competitive rate.

Course Aims: By the end of the course, individuals will be able to demonstrate the essential knowledge and skills needed with threatening emergencies in the workplace.

The Award: The course tutor will carry out an on-going assessment and successful students will receive a certificate recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (valid for a period of three years).

The Appointed Person: Where an employer’s assessment for the First Aid needs identifies that a Four-day FAW qualification is not necessary, the minimum employer’s requirement is to appoint a person to take charge of the First Aid arrangements.

This includes looking after the equipment and facilities, and calling emergency services when required.  Arrangements should be made for an Appointed Person to be available for these duties at all times when people are at work.

Note: Appointed Persons are not First Aiders and should only give 1st Aid for which they have been trained.

2.5 hour CPR Refresher

Course Description: A minimum two and a half hour programme (in one day) for those who wish to refresh their knowledge of CPR. 

Course Aims: By the end of the course, individuals will be able to demonstrate the essential knowledge and skills needed when performing CPR.

The Award:  The course tutor will carry out an on-going assessment.  This is a revision course and a chance to practice.  It is not certificated and only available to those with a current valid 1st Aid Certificate.

Note: Appointed Persons are not First Aiders and should only give 1st Aid for which they have been trained.
